LITTLE THINGS YOU CAN DO….
AS A BUSINESS

We’ve found that Independent Businesses, on average, use about 8 local suppliers.
When a town takes on Totally Locally this usually double to an average of about 16!
This is due to them understanding the importance of supporting each other. So you, by supporting a business that supports lots of other local businesses, are supporting many others too.
The independent business in town will use local accountants, solicitors, window cleaners, probably buy their lunch from a fellow independent in town, have a brew or a pint in an independent café or pub and take on more locally made products.
The local producers are small businesses too, and they have their own local supply chains (research shows £5 spend with an independent business has a value of up to £25 to the local economy). So the money stays in the local economy creating more jobs, sustainable businesses and a better town centre.
We have seen the shop rates in some Totally Locally towns fall dramatically when businesses start working together, encouraging each other and using each other as suppliers. Which makes all this stuff great common sense and, well, just nice!
And if you still need convincing that your business needs to do this, take a look at this little film. Makes total sense doesn’t it!?!

LITTLE THINGS YOU CAN DO….
AS A SHOPPER

Really, it’s that simple!
Just switch £5 or $10 or €5 of your weekly shopping from chain stores, supermarkets or online to an independent business in your town. Change where you buy your lunchtime sandwich, where you buy your coffee, shop with the independent butcher, grocer or book shop, it is that simple. You may ask how this makes a difference?
Take a town with a population of 10,000 adults. If every adult took this simple £5 action that would be £2.6 million pounds more being spent with independent businesses in the town.
That makes a big difference, the shops are more sustainable, they create new jobs, new businesses start up and supply the local shops and your town keeps its character with good quality shops and businesses.

We help to change towns through our trademarked Totally Locally Town Kit.
Easy steps and messages that help residents to join in with Totally Locally, making supporting your high street fun, not a chore.
Fiver Fests, Magic Tenners, Totally Locally Times, Hidden Gem trails – there’s lots to do.
We’re so passionate about the high street that we make our award-winning kit available as a license for voluntary groups. It takes a bit of time and some professional design skills to customise the kit for their town.
Most of all, Totally Locally is about collaboration – between you and your fellow town people, and also between your town and other towns. We ask towns to share their ideas, support each other and even meet up and work together. The more you put in, the more you get – and that’s special! (If you aren’t into the whole working together thing, this really isn’t for you.
