We were again bowled over by the passion from businesses and organisers across the UK during October’s Fiver Fest!
FIVER FEST will return, we run this three times a year (usually February, June and October). It’s a chance for independent businesses to use their collective power to encourage people back to our town centres, to say thank you to customers who supported them during these testing times and to prove once again, that the small guys can compete with the online giants & the supermarkets. In fact they beat them hands down in many ways, but most of all their contribution to our local economies.
We’re not waiting for the government or some big organisation to do something, we are cracking on and doing it ourselves. Like before, no fuss.
Joining in with Fiver Fest is free.
We just ask that you look to this as not just promoting your own business, but promoting ALL the independent businesses in your town.
When we work together, everybody wins.
PLEASE NOTE: THE FIVER FEST IS FOR INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES ONLY –
THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTE DIRECTLY INTO THE LOCAL ECONOMY OF THEIR TOWN. IT DOESN’T INCLUDE BIG CHAIN STORES, SUPERMARKETS,MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES, FRANCHISES OR MLMS. FIVER FEST WAS DESIGNED TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD – TO GIVE A HAND TO SMALL INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES (physical or other).
If you are a Business Group, Association, BID etc that has members and wish to run Fiver Fest in your town, that’s OK, but any independent business in your town can take part, not just your members. Our campaign is inclusive and shouldn’t be used to illicit membership in an any group. Our campaign works best when as many are involved in it as possible for a greater combined voice! If your town benefits, everyone does.
IN THE OCTOBER NATIONAL FIVER FEST WE SAW OVER 100 TOWNS & THOUSANDS OF INDEPENDENT SHOPS AND BUSINESSES JOINING IN.
We had absolutely loads of media coverage, and the reports of big sales, and new customers rediscovering their High Streets was huge.
NEXT TIME WE HOPE IT’S GOING TO BE EVEN BIGGER!
Businesses taking part put on special £5 offers over 2 weeks, to show the diversity and value of what they sell, and to say thank you to the communities that support them.
It comes from the (now famous) Totally Locally £5 message showing the huge impact of people spending just £5 per week in their local independent shops can have on our High Streets.
We are really pleased to that Visa supported Fiver Fest with PR and media. This is as part of their Where You Shop Matters campaign. We are really grateful for Visa’s support, which meant we promoted Fiver Fest and local businesses to a much wider audience.
If you like Fiver Fest and think ‘My High Street could benefit from some of this Totally Locally action’ why not look at joining the wider Totally Locally Campaign?
It’s a free marketing & branding kit with loads of ‘How To Do a…’ type articles, a peer to peer group where people from all over the world chat and offer advice. It tells you how to get people working together and how to include everyone, whilst p••••ing off no one (not easy with small businesses!).
To find out what offers are on in your town or high street, check out your local press, or social media. Look for #fiverfest or #totallylocally or #totallylocallyyourtownname
JOIN IN, DON’T DO YOUR OWN THING
Like everything we do, National Fiver Fest is all about collaboration and showing a united front. It’s run simultaneously across towns all over the UK and works because together, we have a much stronger voice! It is why it has such an impact. It’s also run at very specific times of the year, which was done with much consultation of businesses. These are the quiet times for businesses so Fiver Fest is to help out at those times.
Due to this (and our trademark), we don’t allow Fiver Fest or the use of the name to be attached to other campaigns without our permission.
Busy times of the year such as Christmas are a bad time to do discounting or special offers, as it’s the one time where locals choose to spend locally anyway! Having it during these times it will just be lost under the weight of the general Christmas message. There are other ways of helping out local businesses during these times but Fiver Fest isn’t the best way of doing this.
Note: Totally Locally and Fiver Fest are trademarked & copyrighted so no changing bits or copying it and pretending it’s your idea. Life doesn’t work like that. Sorry.
