The Totally Locally Fiver Fest is a big celebration of Britain’s fantastic small businesses and shops, many run by families or individuals, but ALL contributing massively to the economy of the UK and the wellbeing of our towns.

THE LAST NATIONAL FIVER FEST (OCTOBER 2019) SAW 63 TOWNS & THOUSANDS OF INDEPENDENT SHOPS AND BUSINESSES JOINING IN.

We had absolutely loads of media coverage, and the reports of big sales, and new customers rediscovering their High Streets was huge.

THIS FEBRUARY LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE EVEN BIGGER!

Businesses taking part put on special £5 offers over 2 weeks, to show the diversity and value of what they sell, and to say thank you to the communities that support them.

It comes from the (now famous) Totally Locally £5 message showing the huge impact of people spending just £5 per week in their local independent shops can have on our High Streets.

PLEASE NOTE: THE FIVER FEST IS FOR INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES ONLY –

THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTE DIRECTLY INTO THE LOCAL ECONOMY OF THEIR TOWN. IT DOESNT INCLUDE BIG CHAIN STORES, SUPERMARKETS OR MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES. FIVER FEST WAS DESIGNED TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD – TO GIVE A HAND TO SMALL INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES.

FIVER FEST ‘HOW TO DO IT’ GUIDE

A guide for Shop & Business Owners’

The Totally Locally £5 Message has captured the imagination of so many people.

They get it. It makes it easier for them to shop locally.

They don’t feel overwhelmed and don’t feel that they have to boycott their supermarket or the big shops.

So they do it. Then they start to think more about their town.

Fiver Fest adds massively to that message.

It makes it easy for people to say “I’m going to spend my £5 to support my High Street”. And it shows that you as a business appreciate their custom – because you have put on a great offer for them.

It has had such an impact in almost every place it has been run. And people like to find new things. And they feel less intimidated if they know they can go and just spend £5 instead of worrying that everything will be really expensive in your shop.

Fiver Fest works even better if it’s tied into a food tasting / demonstration etc in your shop or, a treasure trail / map of all the offers. Lots of towns have found this really boosts the uptake of Fiver Fest.

AN OPPORTUNITY…

This is not about just selling £5 things. It’s an opportunity for you to get people through the door who haven’t ever stepped foot in your shop, or who haven’t been for ages. What you do when they get there is up to you.

Don’t worry if you don’t sell a lot of your special offer. It’s not about that (your offer may not be right for everyone, or they may already have one).

Just notice how many more people come into your shop, how many are talking about the campaign and how much press coverage you get.

Some towns have created amazing artwork to promote Fiver Fests.

This time we have made Fiver Fest run over 2 weeks.

We feel that the fortnight works the best, as it gives people more time to engage (And Fiver Fest Fortnight sounds nice).

You can get access to the files for your town, edited by us ready for you to print, by filling the form in below.

We ask you to promote offers from shops around you too, print them out and put them on all the shops’ counters.

This means you are all promoting each other, and people find out about places they may never even knew existed – and one of them could be you!

People will travel if there’s lots of offers from loads of different shops.

So by highlighting other businesses in your town you are persuading people to come and join in. It’s about creating a sense of exploring your high street. The big picture makes a bigger impact.

Just Remember….

– it’s not about shifting old stock, or stuff you can’t get rid of – you are giving people an excuse for them to explore your town and find out about all the great shops that are there. So make it a brilliant offer! The better it is, the more you will sell, but the more people will think about your shop in the future as somewhere to get good quality, interesting stuff. Some shops even change their offer as they go along, or have a few different ones from the start.

Think of it as an investment into advertising your business. It’s that simple.

MAPS

A Fiver Fest Map, possibly done by a local artist, is a brilliant thing to pull the whole thing together. Here’s Teddington’s & Chapel-en-le-Frith’s. They are lovely!

IF YOU ARE AN INDIVIDUAL SHOP

If you are an individual shop, and your town isn’t doing Fiver Fest, but you want to join in – we can send you a set of generic posters that you can add your business name to.

Our smallest Fiver Fest has been one shop on its own. It was a great success! Just email us at: info@totallylocally.org add the title generic posters request & we’ll get them right back to you.

BOLSOVER

In Bolsover…FIVER FEST was UNBELIEVABLE……the community really got behind us……I set up Bolsover FiverFest page….people were sharing and spreading the word, sending pics of their purchases and leaving positive comments & reviews about the shops and business in town.

This has brought our town TOGETHER!

We love hearing the success stories from the first #fiverfestleighonsea ⭐️ thanks for sharing  @cjvinten What a huge success this week has been so far, so many locals popping out and seeing what their little town offers. We’ve had so many ladies popping in to have their rings cleaned and we hear “ooo I’ve never been in here before” – We may have doorbell access but we aren’t dragons behind the door, we promise 🤣

CLICK  TO FIND OUT A LITTLE ABOUT THE £5 CONCEPT & FIVER FESTS>>

The Whole Totally Locally Concept runs on that simple & guilt free message – spend a fiver a week in your town, it helps your high street thrive and makes the place you live that little bit better.

Best of all you get the added bonus of connecting with your community, and supporting all those other local businesses that are all interconnected (the average independent business has 12 local suppliers, so each time you spend locally you support those other businesses too). Nice!

If you like Fiver Fest and think ‘My High Street could benefit from some of this Totally Locally action’ why not look at joining the wider Totally Locally Campaign?

It’s a free marketing & branding kit with loads of ‘How To Do a…’ type articles, a peer to peer group where people from all over the world chat and offer advice. It tells you how to get people working together and how to include everyone, whilst p••••ing off no one (not easy with small businesses!).

It’s in over 50 towns worldwide already, so it must do something right!  Just grab a brew, click here and browse!>>

To find out what offers are on in your town or high street, check out your local press, or social media. Look for #fiverfest or #totallylocally or #totallylocallyyourtownname   Most towns have Facebook too.

We want your Fiver Stories – Let us know how Fiver Fest has affected your town, what great offers you’ve seen or even if you’ve just got to meet some new people.

This is a social thing – we want it to be a lot more than just selling things for £5. It’s about community and businesses supporting each other, whilst saying thank you to people who support local independent businesses.
