The Totally Locally Fiver Fest is a big celebration of Britain’s fantastic small businesses and shops, many run by families or individuals, but ALL contributing massively to the economy of the UK and the wellbeing of our towns.

Towns and High Streets taking part put on special £5 offers over 1 week, to show the diversity and value of what they sell, and to say thank you to the communities that support them.

It comes from the (now famous) Totally Locally £5 message showing the huge impact of people spending just £5 per week in their local independent shops can have on our High Streets.

PLEASE NOTE: THE FIVER FEST IS BY INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES ONLY –

THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTE DIRECTLY INTO THE LOCAL ECONOMY OF THEIR TOWN. IT DOESNT INCLUDE BIG CHAIN STORES, SUPERMARKETS OR MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES. BECAUSE…….

FIVER FEST TOWNS!

The Whole Totally Locally Concept runs on that simple & guilt free message – spend a fiver a week in your town, it helps your high street thrive and makes the place you live that little bit better.

Best of all you get the added bonus of connecting with your community, and supporting all those other local businesses that are all interconnected (the average independent business has 12 local suppliers, so each time you spend locally you support those other businesses too). Nice!

If you like Fiver Fest and think ‘my High Street could benefit from some of this totally locally action’ why not look at joining the wider Totally Locally Campaign?

It’s a free marketing & branding kit with loads of ‘How To Do a…’ type articles, a peer to peer group where people from all over the world chat and offer advice. It tells you how to get people working together and how to include everyone, whilst p••••ing off no one (not easy with small businesses!).

It’s in over 50 towns worldwide already, so it must do something right!  Just grab a brew, click here and browse!>>

To find out what offers are on in your town or high street, check out your local press, or social media. Look for #fiverfest or #totallylocally or #totallylocallyyourtownname   Most towns have Facebook too.

What made me think to share this Jay Baer quote today? I had great fun mooching around my lovely little town of Ashburton and joining in with a national initiative called #FiverFest from @totallylocally this weekend.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Despite being busy retailers, lots of them had created a taster product (or service) that customers could try for a "Fiver" this week. They promoted it via signage in their windows and some local press covered those participating.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Being a social media geek, I was intrigued more was not made of it on social. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I nagged a few retailer pals into using the relevant hashtags and tagging the central @totallylocallyashburton account but the response was sporadic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (The more consistent accounts often have a younger member of staff post to their accounts).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But the main thing that struck me was nobody made use of STORIES for this promotional week. (Some re-posted a mention from somebody else's account)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Stories (especially InstaStories) are the most viewed content on social media. You should be using them EVERY DAY ...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ but especially when there is a local campaign, supporting accounts and hashtags, and like-minded businesses joining in.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Stories elevate our messages beyond a brochure to your whole brand. Examples for my local retail pals might be:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Who are the founders? Why did you start the business? Who do you serve? How does that help? Where are you based? Is it easy to find? Where can you park? What are your opening hours? Why is today a good day to call in?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Dudes PLEASE! Tell us a story. We are itching to know more about you and how we can support you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you're not confident in doing this, just message me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ NB. If you are a business in Ashburton, I live in the town centre and can be there, with my fingers on your phone, within minutes! 😉 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @totallylocallyashburton #totallylocally #totallylocallyashburton #fiverfest #fiverfestashburton

We want your Fiver Stories – Let us know how Fiver Fest has affected your town, what great offers you’ve seen or even if you’ve just got to meet some new people.

This is a social thing – we want it to be a lot more than just selling things for £5. It’s about community and businesses supporting each other, whilst saying thank you to people who support local independent businesses.
